Deep Research for Deal Rooms: Unveiling Report Builder & Blueprints

In our last blog post, we did a deep dive into how deep research is changing workflows across private equity and private capital due diligence. Today, we’re excited to announce Brightwave as the first AI platform specifically developed for deep research, enabled by our new Report Builder and Blueprint functionalities.
Report Builder
Throughout hundreds of hours of user research and countless conversations with our customers, one challenge continued to surface over and over again: the need for a flexible yet intuitive way to organize and structure insights that mirrored the output of a human analyst. While this output looks different across companies, reflecting the bespoke investment processes of individual organizations, it was clear that a tool that is flexible enough to meet these requirements while preserving repeatability and standardization would provide measurable value.
Our Report Builder feature keeps humans in the driver’s seat by allowing professionals to define, customize and save the analyses that are most useful to their investment workflows. Once these core analyses are established, Brightwave delivers the findings in a report format that can be continuously restructured and refined as new information arrives.

In an industry where every detail matters and an overlooked or incorrect finding can derail an entire investment, reliable source verification is non-negotiable. This key distinguishing feature is a part of deep research results across consumer-grade tools like ChatGPT, and is also ingrained in the DNA of what makes Brightwave valuable as a purpose-built tool for research and due diligence.
Reports (as well as our existing Grid View analyses) are accompanied by sentence-level attribution, where key findings are supported by citations that clearly reference the underlying source. This ensures that analysts can always double-click into a result and verify its accuracy so that every line of a memo or Powerpoint deck stands up to rigorous scrutiny by an investment committee.

Blueprints
To make reports even more useful in a fast-paced deal environment, we returned to the idea of scalability: enabling users to save and customize report settings as Blueprints, which ensures repeatability on both an individual and team level. Whether across sectors, industries or geographies, investment analysts often pointed to a set of key analyses that remained important in every deal diligence process. For some firms, it was a strong focus on customer concentration within a set revenue timeframe; for others, it was analyzing bond indenture provisions to identify known anomalies. Whatever it was, the ability to customize and re-use certain analyses was clearly identified as a driver for speeding up otherwise manual processes like reading through multiple but similar files or digging through public filings for new disclosures.

While we found that the collaboration structure of each firm varies depending on headcount, AUM and investment approach, having a platform that allows for controlled sharing was high on Brightwave’s list of priorities. Not only does this allow firms to preserve institutional knowledge when someone (especially professionals who have built up expertise around a company or industry) leaves, but it also enables faster workflows for diligence teams that consist of multiple analysts or associates. Ensuring that the information across reports isn’t duplicated and allowing all team members to leverage what has already been established can be a significant competitive advantage in a competitive deal process when deadlines are compressed to meet bidding timelines.
AI for the Future of Diligence
At Brightwave, we’re constantly iterating and developing new product features based on what we hear from the market and our customers. The launch of Report Builder and Blueprint features are strategic unlocks for our core value pillars, achieving more time savings and deeper insights for our users.
